THE HOTEL
Between history and modernity, Tabletterie Hotel rekindles the art de vivre of the tabletterie industry through a subtle and sophisticated decoration.
This trade, more than 400 years old, allowed Méru to earn in the 1900s the title of “World Capital of the Mother-of-Pearl.”
Why Tabletterie? This art consists of making games or varied fancy goods (fans, cases, dominoes, checkerboards, buttons…) from ivory, shells, fine wood, horn, or even mother-of-pearl…
Our logo is actually inspired by the result of the carvings of mother-of-pearl buttons directly from the shell. You can judge for yourself as thousands decorate the garden of the Mother-of-Pearl Museum, directly adjacent to the hotel.

THE PLACE AND HISTORY
Renovated hotel, a second life is announced for this abandoned building for many years. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, peasants without land sufficient to feed their families, the inhabitants of the Oise, north of Paris, supplemented their income by working in textiles, lace, ceramics and luxury crafts, before to serve as a workforce for various industries.
In the region of Méru and the Pays de Thelle and in that of Noailles, they were made to drink. They used bone, wood, then ivory, horn and mother-of-pearl. In the surrounding villages, in Sainte-Geneviève and Andeville, they worked in winter, at home or in small workshops.
Each had his specialty: mountings of fans, various objects (jewels, toilet or kitchen sets, liturgical instruments, games) dominoes, then buttons, and did a particular task: roughing, shaping, cutting, engraving or decoration. Tablet merchants came to the villages to collect the coins and sold them to Paris wholesalers every year in late spring. Our hotel attached to the neighboring building, formed at the time the manufacture of mother-of-pearl and the tabletterie.

The restaurant is open at midday and in the evening, except Sunday nights. We welcome you for lunch from 12pm to 2pm and from 7pm to 9:30pm for dinner.
